SOCIALDATING · CAMBRIDGEGood to know
Questions before you come?
Clear answers about the event, your ticket, the matching process and what to expect when you arrive.
Is this speed dating?+
No. There are no timers, bells or compulsory one-to-one rotations. You can move around freely and let a good conversation continue.
Can I come on my own?+
Absolutely. Many guests will arrive alone. Your host will welcome you, explain the evening and help introductions happen naturally.
What age group is the launch for?+
The launch evening is for single people aged 30–50. Future events will include other age groups and different communities.
Do I have to join the activities?+
No. Every activity is optional. The cards and coloured stickers are simply there to make starting a conversation easier.
How does the mutual matching work?+
Your private form has space for your real first name, nickname and mobile number, plus boxes for the names of people you would like to see again. Write a name and tick YES, then hand the form to the host at any time during the first two hours and no later than 9pm. The next day, Social Dating checks for mutual choices. If—and only if—you both ticked YES for each other, your mobile numbers will be shared by WhatsApp.
What happens to my number if there is no mutual match?+
It is not shared with another guest. Your choices stay private and are never announced during the event. By writing a person’s name, ticking YES and handing in your form, you consent to Social Dating using those details to check for a mutual match. If matched, the other person will receive your mobile number and may be able to see the profile details connected to your WhatsApp account.
What should I wear?+
Smart casual is ideal. Choose something that helps you feel comfortable and confident rather than dressing for an interview.
What is included in the £15 ticket?+
Entry, private use of the entire Sage café area, the hosted evening and one free welcome drink are included. Choose one glass of red or white wine, any bottled beer or any soft drink. Spirits are not included. Attendees may also use the wider public areas of The Fellows House, including Folio Bar & Kitchen and its food-and-drink areas; these wider spaces are shared with other hotel guests and are not private to the event. Attendees receive 20% off food and drinks at Folio Bar & Kitchen from 7pm until the venue closes, subject to the venue’s terms.
Will numbers be perfectly balanced?+
We will aim for a comfortable balance, but exact numbers cannot be guaranteed because bookings, cancellations and attendance can change.
What happens when I arrive?+
You will check in, receive your free welcome drink, a private YES form and a sticker. Write your REAL first name and a nickname of your choice on the sticker, then add the two coloured subjects you would most like to discuss. Your host will welcome everyone and explain the evening.
Why do I need a real first name and a nickname?+
The combination makes it much easier to identify the right person on the matching form. Your nickname also gives people an instant conversation starter and lets you show a little personality. It can be a real nickname or one you create just for the night—be creative, but keep it respectful.
Do the colours decide who I can speak to?+
Absolutely not. Your two coloured subjects appear on your sticker as conversation starters, not matching categories. You can speak to anyone you choose.
Can I receive a refund or transfer my ticket?+
Please check the refund and ticket-transfer details on Eventbrite before purchasing.
What happens if the event sells out?+
A waiting list will open for this event. Joining it will not add you to wider marketing unless you separately choose to hear about future events.
Is the event inclusive?+
The launch is for single people aged 30–50, with the audience and format stated clearly on Eventbrite. Future events will be developed for different communities and preferences.
What if I do not meet anyone romantically?+
The event creates a genuine opportunity to meet people; it cannot promise a relationship. A good conversation, an enjoyable evening or simply trying something new can still make the night worthwhile.
